Robert Gardner is Partner and Co-Principal of Redington Partners LLP.
Redington Partners LLP provides independent and strategic advice to Pension Funds, Corporate Sponsors and Insurance Companies. Robert is one of its founding Partners.
Robert was previously a Director in the Insurance & Pensions Solutions Group at Merrill Lynch (Europe, Middle East and Africa) with over 7 years experience in implementing and executing ALM derivative solutions across a range of asset classes.
Prior to joining Merrill Lynch in 2003, he worked in the Relative Value Group, UK and Global Risk Strategy Group at Deutsche Bank, Global Markets in London.
Redington is passionate about innovation. In 2003, whilst at their former employers, Merrill Lynch, Redington's partners implemented the market's first full LDI (Liability Driven Investing) hedge with a FTSE 100 pension scheme to protect the scheme against adverse movements in interest rates and inflation. As rates fell and inflation rose during the next three years, the scheme was fully immunised. So much so, that as equities rose over the same period, the scheme moved out of deficit and into surplus, the exact opposite of most other defined benefit schemes. After that first pioneering transaction, they implemented several more; some were with pension schemes, others with insurance companies but all were cutting edge and highly effective.
