Julie Barnum
Global Director, Credit

Julie Barnum is the FT Knowledge Financial Learning Global Director, Credit, based in New York, where she is responsible for coordinating the development and delivery of all credit training courses. Julie has more than 20 years experience in the banking industry working in corporate and structured finance, credit and training.

Before joining FT Knowledge Julie worked as Director, Global Head of Credit Risk Management Training at Deutsche Bank Alex Brown, NY. There, she developed a 3-year global curriculum for 500 credit risk managers, implemented new web-based internet product training, and delivered a number of workshops and programs.

Julie previously spent 13 years with Banque Paribas. In Los Angeles, Julie was the Senior Vice President of the Leveraged Finance Group where she was responsible for a $350 million portfolio including annual budgets and strategic planning.
She then served a four-year assignment in Paris where as Senior Area Manager, Financial Institutions Group she was responsible for global credit lines, marketing of securities services and general banking relations for banks and brokers located in North and South America and 8 European countries. Overall credit lines were in excess of $150 billion.

In 1995, Julie became the Head of International Training, Corporate Banking Division at Paribas, Paris. She was responsible for the design, implementation and management of comprehensive training programs for the International Corporate Banking division which covered 60 countries and 2,000 employees. As Head of International Training, Julie conducted a global needs analysis which led to the creation of Paribas’ first in-house worldwide credit training program.

Upon her return to New York in 1998, Julie was appointed Senior Credit Officer in the Risk Management Division at Paribas, New York. Her responsibilities included approving all new and existing media, telecommunication and entertainment related loans in North and South America. In addition, Julie was responsible for all corporate loans in the Southwestern region, with an emphasis on leveraged transactions. Total portfolio size was in excess of $4.0 billion.

Julie’s early career was at Union Bank in Los Angeles. As Vice President in the Merchant Banking Division she was responsible for all corporate finance requirements including merger and acquisition advice and valuations for middle-market corporations. Over a three year period, Julie privately placed 25 credit-enhanced tax-exempt industrial revenue bonds.

Julie has a BS degree in Business Administration from California State University at Northridge. She is also a member of the Capital Markets Credit Analysts Society and holds the Series 52 license.
