You can assign each of your members to be Administrators, Assistants, or Support Specialists.

An Administrator has essentially the same privileges as you, the course creator. When you assign someone to become an Admin, he’ll be able to start discussions and organize the course content on the site. The only difference that’ll set you apart is that you’re still the only one who can handle payment integrations.

An Assistant can revise and remove content from the site. But they won’t be able to view financial and analytics reports as an Administrator can.

Finally, a Support Specialist would have the most limited access out of the three. He will mainly be able to moderate comments and discussions of the students on the site.

How Kajabi Works

To get started with Kajabi, you will need to first create an account on the website. Once you have set up your account, you will be introduced to your personalized dashboard with sections such as Products, Sales, Members, Comments, Website, Marketing, Integrations, and Settings. Read on to get a brief idea of how easily you can create a course on Kajabi.

Step 1: Create a Product

You can create your product, which will be your course, by clicking “+ New Product.”

You will have a separate dashboard for each new product containing options such as Product Details, Appearance, Posts, and Categories. If you click Product Details, you will get to decide the title, description, and product thumbnail.

The cool thing is you can edit your product details whenever you want. Once you have kept your product name, description, and photo, you can save the details and move onto the next step.

Step 2: Add Content

To add content to your course, go to “Categories.” Here you will find different categories that can act as the “chapters” or “modules” of your course. You can upload each chapter or module in the given space for each category. What’s cool is that you can rearrange the order of the categories.

Within each category, you will find “Category Details,” such as the Title, Parent Category (categories within the main category), and description.

Below the Category Details, you will find the “Visibility” which gives you three options for how you want to show your categories – “Draft” (which will keep your category hidden from other members until you’re finished), “Published” (you choose this when your category is complete and ready to be published), and “Drip” (the category will be available to members on a specific number of days when they buy your course).

You can post an image for each category and have different posts for them, too.

Step 3: Enrich Posts

Talking about posts, you can add the content to them or make changes to them by clicking “Posts” in your dashboard. FYI, this option is also available in the category section. Give each post a title, category it should go under, and mention text in the body section.

Again, you have the option to choose the kind of visibility you want your posts to have for your users. Apart from these functions, you can upload a video and a poster image for each post.

Once you upload the posts, it can be made available for downloads (PDF, word files, web links, etc.) through the Downloads option. You can also turn on the comment section to interact with your users.

Step 4: Customize Appearance

One of the best features is that you can overview your entire setting by clicking “Preview.” It will give you a final look at your course and how it will appear to onlookers. We saved the most game-changing feature for the last; you can access it by clicking “Appearance.”

Here, you can dig deep into your creative roots and enhance the visual appeal of your course. There are a series of themes in here which you can choose for your product.

There are a total of seven free themes – Mist, Classic, Dive, Derby, Primo, Slate, and Next. Pick the theme you like and simply activate it to have your entire course emulate the theme you have selected. You can further customize your course by clicking the “Customize” button.

If you ask us, it’s still worth it though. But it just might not be a priority if you’re still starting out and strapped for cash.

If you’re a big company that’s planning to enroll your employees onto Kajabi, you might experience some issues with user management. Since Kajabi isn’t capable of handling multiple tenants, the processes won’t be as streamlined as a platform with muti-tenancy capabilities.

If you don’t know yet, multi-tenancy is when a platform can easily create and handle various branded instances under one platform. Though Kajabi can help you create multiple websites, it can’t compile all the websites under one system.

You’ll still have to access all the different instances separately. And if your company works with a large number of clients and employees, it will be confusing for you to manage them all since you can’t find the databases in just one place.

As mentioned earlier, course instructors can reward students with certificates for every course they complete. But there’s one catch with this feature:

The certificate doesn’t indicate how long a student spent studying the course.

This poses an issue if you’re planning to specialize in a specific course or major. Since there’s no proof of how long you studied something, other instructors won’t know if you’re already ready to take the next level of formal courses.

Your certificate won’t hold weight in institutions like colleges or universities and you’ll most likely just have to take the equivalent course all over again there.

In short, courses can’t be interconnected. They’re treated as separate subjects instead of levels that you can gradually progress from.

If Thinkific and Kajabi just don’t seem to suit you, then you should check out Teachable. It’s another worthy online course platform alternative because of its similar features.

Much like Kajabi, it provides you with all the tools you need to create and sell online courses. You can make an engaging online course by adding different files and content types for the lessons.

Similar to Kajabi, Teachable also lets you drip your course content so that your students will continuously receive new lessons over time. And you can even design your own certificates to reward them at the end of every lesson or online course.

You can enrich your courses further by also adding videos to the lessons. And everything you put into the course can be viewed in high quality through Teachable’s course player.

What sets Teachable a notch higher than Thinkific as a platform is that it has a handful of great marketing features. You can send coupons to your users and run an affiliate marketing program too, much like you can with Kajabi.

However, Teachable does have a few things it can still improve on. One is that it has limited course player design options so it’s not as customizable. The same goes for its site themes and page builder settings as well.

And unlike Kajabi, the Teachable platform doesn’t give you an option to build landing pages, sales funnels, or marketing funnels for your courses. It doesn’t have automated email marketing tools either, unlike Teachable does.

Kajabi is also pretty well-known for its online community which Teachable doesn’t have. It’ll be harder to create forums and discussions with your students and other team members.

But despite those things to improve on, we can still say that Teachable is a worthy course platform to try out. It still gives you the ability to create a course and website from scratch. You won’t need any prior web design knowledge.

It more or less covers all the basic steps you need to accomplish when setting up your site and online course. But when compared to Kajabi’s complete features, we still can’t deny that the Teachable platform pales in comparison.
